Expanding to Madison

After a successful start for The Backpack Fund last year, the local charity is expanding its reach to address their detected need in Madison. The charity is committing to fundraising for an additional 100 backpacks and school supply kits to be donated to people in need in Madison.

The Backpack Fund eyed this expansion after a successful start last year. With just three weeks of fundraising, they were able to raise over $7,000, which helped fund the Emily Ringler Memorial Scholarship, as well as provide 500 backpacks and school supply kits to children in need. They hope to do the same thing again this year, having already awarded this year’s scholarship to Gabi Fender, a 2021 graduate of Riverside High School.

The expansion is spearheaded by Marcus Horton, a new addition to The Backpack Fund, who is a 2019 graduate of Madison High School. He is joined by his sister, Delaney, and his friend Brenden Snopel, who are also from Madison, and graduated from Madison High School. They have been brought onto The Backpack Fund not only as additional fundraising and event planning, but as a connection to Madison School District, which allows better service to Madison community.

By including Madison in this year’s plans, The Backpack Fund is committing to raising an additional $1,000 in donations, which will be used to provide 100 backpacks and school supply kits to students in Madison. This will also feature two additional locations to the 2021 Supply Drop, the annual event held by The Backpack Fund in which school supplies are donated directly to the people in need. While these locations are yet to be announced, they will specifically serve the Madison community, and be close to the people who need the supplies. The Madison team of Snopel and the Hortons will be distributing these supplies on August 14, 2021, and will run simultaneously to the rest of the Supply Drop.

If you would like to help with The Backpack Fund and our expansion, there are a good amount of pathways to do that. Donations are always accepted online, at thebackpackfundohio.com/donate. If you would like to volunteer for The Backpack Fund in any way, we have that available through thebackpackfundohio.com/get-involved.

We’re Expanding to Madison!

We had a fantastic start last year, with over 550 school supplies being donated directly to people in need. Because of that success, we’re beginning the work to reach out to the rest of Lake County! The start of this journey takes us to an official expansion into Madison. We are committing to fundraising for an additional 100 backpacks and school supply kits to be handed out to people in need in Madison.

The expansion is spearheaded by Marcus Horton, a new addition to The Backpack Fund. He is bringing along his sister, Delaney, and his friend Brenden Snopel. All three of them are graduates of Madison High School. Not only are they helping with additional fundraising and event planning, but as a connection to Madison School District. This helps us better serve the community in Madison, just like how our partnership with Riverside School District helps us serve the Painesville community.

By including Madison in this year’s plans, we are committing to raising an additional $1,000 in donations, which will provide 100 backpacks and school supply kits to students in Madison. We’re also adding two locations to the 2021 Supply Drop, our annual event to get the school supplies to the people who need them. While those locations are yet to be announced, they will specifically serve the Madison community, and be close to the people who need the supplies. The Madison team of Marcus, Delaney, and Brenden will be distributing these supplies on August 14, 2021, and will run simultaneously to the rest of the Supply Drop.
